A chat with Nicola
What was your first job?
I worked in a hotel, mainly as a waitress but when they were short staffed I would do chambermaid duties
When you were growing up, what did you want to be?
I always wanted to work in a Post Office, because I liked the idea of stamping everything!
If you could give a younger version of yourself some advice what would it be?
Never say never…. you only get one shot at life, make sure you enjoy it!
What makes you happy?
My family, especially my children
What infuriates you?
Rude people, manners cost nothing! And bullies…. and cold callers…. They all should be put in Room 101!
Name 5 guests dead or alive you would invite to a dinner party?
Take That (they can sing to me anytime!), Peter Kay (for the entertainment), Morgan Freeman (I love his voice), Ronnie Barker, Ant & Dec (they count as 1 person!)
What are your best qualities and worst habits?
I am a very loving person, and very protective of people I love. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad habit, but my daughter tells me I am very bossy… of course it’s completely untrue! 😉 Oh, and I’m always on the last minute!
Worst job you’ve ever had?
I’d say, my first job in the hotel – I don’t do early mornings!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I volunteer in a local charity shop, I really enjoy chatting to all the customers. I also love catching up with my family & friends (normally over a nice glass of wine!)
If you could change one law what would it be?
We should all be off work on sunny days, we don’t have very many on the island so it would be nice to enjoy them! But I wouldn’t go as far to say we should only work when it rains…. We’d end up in the office more than we are now!!
Do you prefer Indian or Chinese food or another cuisine?
Chinese, I could eat it every night!
Besides the obvious if there was one day you could relive, which one would you pick? (can’t put wedding or birth of a child)
It has to be the day I held ‘Take That’ Mark Owen’s hand!!
Favorite TV programme?
I’m a Celebrity…. Get Me Out Of Here….! I am on ‘Do not disturb’ for the 3 weeks whilst it’s on TV!
Favorite holiday destination?
France. I have so many happy memories of lots family holidays there over the years.
Favourite meal?
I have so many! Anything cooked by my Mum, she is an amazing cook, especially her meat & potato pie! It’s a favourite in the office too!
Favourite smell?
Freshly baked bread
What is the best invention ever?
I think most technology is amazing and moving so fast, the likes of Facetime especially. To be able to actually see loved ones over the other side of the world whilst talking to them is pretty special
Have you take the toiletries from hotels when you leave?
Yes, you never know when you may need a shower cap!!
Do you still watch cartoons?
Yes of course, life would be dull without Spongebob!
When was the last time you hand wrote a letter?
Far too long ago, I miss hand written letters. I loved receiving a letter in the post, I would write to my friends all the time. The generation of today don’t know what they are missing!
What was the first concert you attended?
INXS in Glasgow, aged 16, with one of my longtime friends.
Can you change the oil in a car?
Cars have oil??!!
If you could have a super power what would it be?
Mind-reader I think…
Who is the most famous person you’ve met?
Perhaps not the most famous, but after my first concert we were travelling on the same train as INXS guitarist Tim Farriss. The guard arranged for me & my friend to go meet him & get his autograph. I’ve also met Graham Souness and I had a drink in the bar with the members of ‘The Darkness’ when they played in the Villa Marina
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would buy?
After the obvious things (house/car/treats for the family) I’d buy a ticket to travel the world in style with my whole family
If you could time travel, which era would you visit?
I think the 1960’s – I love the fashion from that era and music really took off, I’d of loved to have experienced the hype of The Beatles.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Caring, friendly, emotional!
What is the first record you bought?
Paul McCartney & The Frog Chorus – We all Stand Together (I was young – don’t judge me!!)
